1GOAL 2012: Educate Girls!

1GOAL and the African Network Campaign for Education For All (ANCEFA) are working with the Confederation of African Football in 2012 during the African Cup of Nations to highlight the desperate need to realize the right of girls everywhere to have a quality education.

Why girls' education?

1GOAL believes that everyone has the right to good quality, free education - boys and girls alike. But right now, girls are falling behind and the majority of children out of school are girls. While there has been progress to get more girls enrolled in primary school, they are still more likely than boys to drop out of school before completion. In 47 out of 54 African countries, girls have less than a 50% chance of going to secondary school.

This is why we are shifting our attention to girls' education for the 2012 1GOAL campaign, impressing upon football fans and politicians alike that girls should be sent to school.

We are asking national presidents across Africa to commit to ensuring equity for girls in education - as is their right! We are asking you to join us to call for the 2012 African Union Summer Summit to make this commitment to girls.
